ATN VOICES · COMMUNITY POLICY

Talk openly. Argue responsibly.

Voices enables public conversation about Ethiopia and Africa. It is not the ATN newsroom. Posts express their authors’ views and are not verified or endorsed by ATN.

Participation rules

Be accountable. Use a public handle and accurate representation of yourself. Do not impersonate newsrooms, institutions, or other individuals.

Distinguish fact from opinion. Provide original sources for consequential claims when possible. Do not present unverified allegations, manipulated evidence, or recycled material as established fact.

Protect people. Do not post threats, harassment, hate, dehumanizing content, private addresses, sensitive personal data, or incitement. Discussion of conflict and vulnerable communities requires particular care.

Avoid spam. No automated posting, scams, paid undisclosed promotion, or manipulative engagement. New accounts are subject to posting limits.

Respect rights. Publish material you have the right to share and disclose relevant commercial or political interests.

Reporting and moderation

Readers may report a post for spam, harassment, misinformation, violence or another concern. Reports are not votes on whether an opinion is popular. Posts reaching five distinct reports are automatically removed from public display pending further review; staff may also remove content for policy violations.

Automatic thresholds can be abused and cannot replace editorial or human moderation. ATN may restrict or remove posts when necessary. A removed post can also remove its replies from view.

To request a review, correction or appeal, contact ATN with the post link and your concern. Do not publish private information in a public reply.

Privacy and attribution

Handles, display names, posts, likes counts and reply counts are public. Your sign-in email address is not shown in community posts. Account follows and which posts you liked are private to your account; aggregate counts appear publicly. Public posts may be shared or indexed by search engines.

Writing an ATN Voices post does not make you an ATN journalist or a verified source. Editorially reviewed contributions use a separate submission and review process.
