Evidence before speed.
ATN does not knowingly publish a claim merely because it is circulating. Material factual claims should be attributable to an identified source, document, direct reporting or corroborated evidence.
Every ATN story should make clear what is confirmed, what supports it, how ATN presented it and where uncertainty remains.
ATN does not knowingly publish a claim merely because it is circulating. Material factual claims should be attributable to an identified source, document, direct reporting or corroborated evidence.
ATN prioritizes developments that materially affect policy, markets, companies, technology, security or capital. Publication decisions are governed by evidence, relevance and editorial standards.
A reader should be able to distinguish reporting, externally sourced news, analysis and partner material without reverse-engineering how the story was produced.
Reporting produced by a named ATN journalist or contributor using direct interviews, firsthand observation, documents or original data work. This label is not used for a rewritten outside source.
An ATN-written account grounded primarily in identified external reporting, official documents, company disclosures or institutional releases. The underlying source remains visible.
Interpretation that separates confirmed events from implications, scenarios, risks and forward-looking judgment. Analysis should make its evidentiary basis visible.
Material supplied by an authorized partner or wire source. The originating organization remains explicit and ATN does not present it as its own original reporting.
Source titles, press-release subject lines and institutional announcement language are inputs, not finished headlines. ATN headlines should state the material development clearly and neutrally.
Trailing publisher names, “press release,” “official site,” promotional slogans and unnecessary announcement language are removed unless they are themselves material to the story.
ATN does not strengthen an allegation, forecast, estimate or preliminary announcement beyond what the evidence supports. Headlines should preserve material uncertainty.
Primary sources are preferred whenever practical. Source name, URL, timing and retrieval provenance remain part of the record. Multiple independent sources increase confidence but do not automatically make a claim true.
Research and production tools may assist the newsroom, but every published record remains subject to ATN’s sourcing, attribution, uncertainty and correction standards. Tools do not change the reporting basis of a story.
ATN remains accountable for what it publishes. High-risk claims, conflicts, elections, security events and sensitive allegations require stronger evidence and review.
Material corrections are visible and append-only. ATN does not silently erase a material correction from a story’s public history. Updates that materially change an assessment should be timestamped.
Contributor reporting retains visible authorship. Expertise, identity, reporting location and content type should remain explicit where relevant.
Advertising, sponsorship and commercial research must be clearly labeled and visually distinct from independent editorial work. Payment does not buy undisclosed editorial conclusions.
Displayed observations should carry their period or “as of” date, source and update cadence. Publication time is not the same as the period represented by a statistic.
ATN reserves “live” for feeds or monitoring surfaces that actively update. Daily FX reference rates, annual GDP and periodic inflation releases are labeled according to their real cadence.
ATN prefers an explicit unavailable state to a fabricated placeholder or unlabeled stale estimate. Historical values remain useful when their period is visible.
Visualizations should preserve units, time periods, source context and a meaningful baseline. ATN does not intentionally truncate or rescale charts to create a misleading impression.
Make Africa Understandable.
Deliver independent journalism and decision-relevant intelligence that helps people understand Ethiopia and Africa through verified reporting, rigorous analysis and accessible data.
Become Africa’s most trusted and indispensable news and intelligence institution.
Begin with Ethiopia, develop authoritative public-interest journalism and professional intelligence, and expand responsibly across the continent.
ATN is independently operated. Material commercial relationships and conflicts that could affect coverage are disclosed rather than hidden.
Truth above all; independence without compromise; depth over noise; African perspective with global standards; innovation with responsibility; respect for the reader.
Essential journalism, verified developments, context and public-interest reporting remain accessible regardless of ability to pay.
Subscriptions and institutional services may provide additional research, data, monitoring and tools, never preferential access to truth or influence over reporting.
Advertising, sponsorship, custom research and paid products must be clearly distinguished from independent journalism. Revenue partners cannot purchase favorable coverage, suppression or undisclosed editorial influence.
Corrections are linked to the affected record and preserved as part of ATN’s public history.
ATN will preserve material corrections here when they occur.
