Bank of Abyssinia’s pre-tax profit jumps 57 percent to Birr 15.8 billion
According to Ethiopian Business Review, Bank of Abyssinia reported Birr 15.85 billion in pre-tax profit for the year ended June 30, 2026, up 56.9%.
What happened
Bank of Abyssinia reported pre-tax profit of Birr 15.85 billion and assets of Birr 381.50 billion for the year ended June 30, 2026. Ethiopian Business Review published the results on October 7.
Why it matters
Higher interest and fee income supported earnings growth, but Stage 3 loans rose from Birr 5.18 billion to Birr 15.64 billion. Stronger profit therefore needs to be assessed alongside deteriorating credit quality. For shareholders, provisioning and capital strength are key measures of how sustainable the reported growth is.
